Bit on the side..

Just watched The Roommate it's not one of the films listed that my group will be focusing on but i thought it would be good to get more background research on obsession which is a one of the key factor in our film and is also in this film. Since it’s also a thriller film it fits right into the genre I’m looking at which has given me better clarity on what things must be including in a thriller film.

It started off as a stereotypical college experience with the partying, drinking and meeting boys but slowly it start to reveal the victims and the villains of the narrative.
Sara Matthews is a college freshman student studying fashion at a Los Angles college. She meets Tracy (Aly Michalka), Stephen (Cam Gigandet) who becomes her boyfriend, Jason (Matt Lanter) and Rebecca (Leighton Meester) her roommate. Initially, the girls start to bond and Rebecca learns that Sara had an older sister called Emily that died when she was 9 so she got her name tattooed onto her chest. As time goes on Rebecca's obsession with Sara grows and she starts to try and drive a wedge between the people that are close to Sara so that she could have her to herself.

Now this is the parts that my group are interested in which is how to create an obsessive character. Rebecca starts of innocent and caring, the friend that you could call a sister but then she has little moments where she will act out or create a tense atmosphere that lets the audience know something is wrong with her. For instance she straight away had a grudge against Tracy just by the way her body tense around her, and the intense /blank looks she would give her when she was present or next to Rebecca making it known that she viewed her as a rival /enemy someone that could get in the way of her being Sara's closest friend which she needed to eliminate fast.
She also showed sociability when needing to trap someone so we will need to make our character come across in that way as well.

The little things she did like touching Sara's things and wearing her necklace that was her sisters is also obsessive behaviour that can be including in my groups film. Also the music would offend be a calm song or sounds in the background then change instantly to give that shivering effect that straight away changes the mood of a person.
The edits were also fast when Rebecca's obsessive side was coming into action or if she lost control of her feelings spontaneously.

So far i have gathered a lot of information on obsessive behaviour and how the character should look/act/speak this will be discussed with my group towards how we can apply this to our film.
