Editing day 1....

On the 27th of March (yesterday) we had our first 5 hour editing session in the Mac suit on site our school. At first it took use some time to figure how to use the Mac computer as it wasn’t as simple as we thought but we got there in the end. A few issues a raised such as, we had difficulty with importing the short clips on a USB prepared by Tyler onto the Mac which caused us to start all over again and cutting them down also. After that things were looking up as we got most of the editing done apart from the music which began to cause a problem as it wouldn’t download onto iTunes or any file on the computer, wouldn’t play where we wanted it once we got it onto the Mac and then it was hard to try and get the right part of the song matched with the edit we wanted. Since then we fixed the problem and got the music at the right place so all our problems were now gone. As a team we worked well seeing that it was our first time editing but also effectively as we sorted our problems with the iMovie (software used) and were able to more on. When we did have problems we asked for guidance form fellow AS and A2 media students that were happy to help.

WWW- What went well:
·         As a group we worked effectively and got a lot done seeing as we didn’t have a clue how to work anything at the beginning of the session.
·         We done most of our editing and got use to the Mac and software
·         We all contribute when in time of trouble or just being helpful

EBI- Even better if:
·         We got straight into our work and settle quicker
·         Was able to get time before to learn how to use a Mac or the software which would of saved time

Online Survey...

Three weeks ago, Tyler took it upon her self to create a online survey for primary research since the web is used   used constantly by everyone.
                                                          Here are there questions:
these are the first 3 questions asked

this is what was shown after questions were completed

statistics of survey

question 1 results

question 2 results

question 3 results

question 4 results

question 5 results

question 6 results

question 7 results

These are a table from the online survey that outlined which sub-genre was most popular with the group age 15+ and the income/bracket status C-E. This was done over a 2 day period with 23 respondents for the survey.
This was a big help as we was that the market was chose was convenient as Psychological was popular.

Day 2 (Common Room)

We had a lot of distractions and delays as the makeup took 10 minutes to complete then the noise level was high so it was difficult to film with everyone talking.

Although we didn’t check the weather forecast for this day it was a dry and calm throughout the days so we had no issues with the weather.
Since Georgia and Tyler were acting I and Jahquani were then directing; specifically I was in control of recording and rotating the camera whilst Jahquani was in control of the zooming in and out since rotating and zooming couldn't be done at the same time without an extra part of hands so we worked together.

We could have done much better with background research of locations with the camera for lighting and Mis en scene instead of just assuming they would work along with what we set out to get this showed as we had to change positions of some change angles that we had decided on before and use different props

Another thing we should learnt to consider was the storyboard as on the first day we didn't use it throughout which we found was a problem as it wasn't used effectively as it should of been. the next days however we used it like a guidebook and checked it constantly to see if we were going in the right direction we should have been.

On a whole as a group we were always there helping each other when in need which was effective as we finished filming quite quickly and rotated people doing jobs equally.

Day 3 of Filming...

Starting time- 3pm
Finishing time- 4:42pm
Location- Georgia’s house (kitchen, living room, garden and bed room)
Role- Emmanuel (stalker), Matthew (broken hearted boyfriend)

We had previously planned our last day of filming on the 14th of March but due to a school trip we had to put filming on hold till the 16th of March.
The location for filming was at Georgia’s house where we used various places such as the kitchen, garden, living room and her bedroom for the stalking scenes.

We got to Georgia’s house around 1:30pm with the all the crew except Emmanuel who was 1hr late holding back our filming time which was a problem as it wasted a lot of time that could have been used. Another issue we faced was the printer as it had technically problems of not printing again which took up some more time which could have been sorted before if we had printed before.

here is me and Jahquani setting up the tripod for the POV shot

For our first scene we used POV shot which came with minor issues. Our original plan we to film through a glass door looking at Matthew but this did not go to plan as our reflection was all that could be seen on the camera lenses. We soon changed this by opening the door to film trough the blinds as planned before.

this is the reflection we saw on the camera we i tried to film
blooper to be added of extra POV shots
we used both storyboards to guide us whilst filming

Screenshots of POV shots of Emmanuel watching Matthew. We thought it would be a good idea as the opening scene to start off with a POV shot of Emmanuel stalking Matthew as this would straight away get the audience into a thriller atmosphere and keep them going with the suspense that in be incorporated using technical elements as well.

Pictures at the end of the stalking scene shows Emmanuel breaking into Georgia's house and portraying his endless love for her

As there was extra time left back we filmed our fourth and final scene of the day which only took 1 take. This here shows an anonymous letter received by Matthew BUT who is is from??...

And who would write such a letter??...

who is ANONYMOUS??

why are they so obsessed??...

On a whole as a group we worked well when filming as it wasn't a problem due to everyone knowing what needed to be done, when it need to be done and what they're roles were even helping when someone else couldn't or need assistance.

WWW – What went well:
·         1 take was all we used of all scenes
·         Only used 3days to film
EBI- Even better if:
·         We started on time as planned
·         No technical malfunctions with the printer

Day 2 of filming

Starting time- 12:35pm
Finishing time- 1pm
Location- common room
Role- Georgia and Matthew (the loved up ‘it’ couple), Emmanuel (jealous friend) and Tyler (non-existent girl) we also had extras in the background which are students.

On Monday 12th March we filmed our second scene in the common room.

This scene is the flash back scene which included all the main characters and extras to make a more realistic scene . Even though we had extras in the background we had difficulties with noise levels which resulted in 4 takes but that wasnt a problem as we got what we wanted and needed in the end.

establishing shot of the characters in action

We started at the beginning of lunch (12:20pm) for getting ready which was me doing Georgia’s makeup that took longer than we thought, 15mins to be exact.

As we were ready for filming another issue we faced was the noise level of the common room as it was difficult to film due to everyone’s talking and the random occasions of laughing by main characters because of the extras that we distracting them which resulted in us doing 4 takes in total.

WWW- what went well:
We filmed what we needed in a short amount of time
Using a realistic setting including extras
EBI- even better if:
Makeup was done earlier or quicker
Did a pilot of the scene before to see if things would go to plan

Day 1 of filming..

On the 9th of March we started our first filming scene outside Georgia’s house of people paying their respects to dead character Georgia.

Starting time- 5pm

Finishing time- 6pm
Roles- Matthew, Asher and Tobi (The boyfriend & his brother and good friend going to  pay their respects), Emmanuel (Stalker of Matthew). Me, Jahquani, Georgia and Tyler – rotated around filming, setting up and directing.
Before we started filming we had to set the scenery with props such as 3 types of tulip flowers, teddy bears and a picture of Georgia with her birth date and death day on it.

We made a few changes which included us adding two more characters to the opening scene

Asher Christie (brother of Matthew - who is accompanying Matthew to Georgia’s shrine.
Tobi Ogundipe – Toby is only in the opening scene accompanying Matthew on the way to Georgia’s shrine.

We also changed the establishing shot and a few other parts of the opening shot

On set there is : Tyler,Georgia,Me,Jahquani,Emmanuel,Tobi and Asher

Even though we had a very successfully day we did have to do 9 takes before it was perfect.

Everyone initially arrived at 3pm to Georgia’s house except Jahquani who was at an appointment and joint us later. We started off with a technical problem as the camera need to be charge and also the printer was malfunctioning as we need to print out a picture of Georgia for the shrine; both these things took up a vast majority of time that delayed us to start at 5pm.

When setting up we faced issues with the wind as it kept blowing out the candles we lit so we left them unlit, another thing that delayed us was getting the picture to stay stuck on the tree as the tape we used wouldn’t house it was had to go search Georgia’s house for stronger tape.

After all this we were finally ready to start filming around a brief talk to the crew about what was needed to be done, how, where and when. We were off shooting but this didn’t get done easily as it took 9 takes to complete as it was our first time filming and to get what we wanted right.

We also did 2 bloopers to test the camera quality and review how it would look. Will soon be uploaded...

WWW- What went well:
·         The shrine looked realistic and believable
·         The weather work with our initial idea of low key lighting
·         The camera positioning and angles used as we were amateurs
EBI- Even better if:
·         Debriefed actors in-depth of what we expected of them before hand
